From a merchant's point of view there are TWO major limiting factors for me to not open shops in the more popular opensim grids:

1) Obviously the lack of an economy system is a problem. So far I only found InWorldz offering an economy with in-world money. For all the other opensim grids I need to rely on 3rd party payment methods which are clumsy and prone to manipulation. The grid coming first with an integrated micropayment system similar to L$ in SL will have a huge impact.

2) Rental space. Of course I can connect/buy my own regions in any of the popular grids, but my business does neither justify the huge space a full sim offers, nor the expenses - even taing into account that in opensim grids prices are much lower compared to SL. What I would need is a <= 512sqm parcel which I can rent at a reasonable weekly/monthly price.

Basically I intend to make a blogpost of my own on these issues for quite a while now.
