Seems to me that this might be more an indication that people who have relatively low physical world sexual satisfaction (for whatever reason) are more prone to have active SLex lives.

Maybe. However, 42% of the respondents in the survey said that they were more satisfied with their real sex life — which seems to be in line with other reports.
For example, in a recent global survey of 26,000 people, 44% said they were satisfied with their sex life:
So the Second Lifer's aren't significantly more dissatisfied than anyone else.

If I'm reading this right, the virtual world survey asked *relatively* whether virtual or physical sex were more satisfying. The global survey asked if people were satisfied with their sex lives (not as a comparison to something else).
My guess is that most people who are very satisfied with their physical world sex lives probably aren't having much virtual sex. And online relationships are more satisfying than real life relationships, but only for those who have online relationships. If you have an physical world partner you're satisfied with, you're probably not involved with a virtual partner (with the exception of the truly polyamorous).
Does that make sense?
"According to a study conducted recently by Loyola Marymount University in Second Life, 43 percent of those surveyed were more satisfied with sexuality in Second Life, while 42 percent preferred real life."
do keep in mind that any study whose sample comes from a specific population can not be correlated out to the general population
virtual sex is perhaps as satisfying to virtual world users
this is the same as saying "in a survey of dog owners, most found that petting a dog was relaxing"
One thing that might slow such developments in a relative lack of quality sex animations for use in whatever grid you wish. Â There is only one general vendor out there for cross-world sex animations that I know of. Â There may be others selling quality sex furniture with liberal permissions. Â
Maybe with HG 2.0 more vendors will start selling their wares in OpenSim. Right now, you either have to have a closed grid — which dramatically limits your potential customer base, since who wants to create yet another avatars? — or you have to worry about proprietary content leaving.
With HG 2.0, it looks like creators will be able to lock individual pieces of content down to their grids of origin. It still won’t stop copybotters or hackers — but then, nothing stops those guys. But it will provide a similar level of security to what’s available in Second Life, say, or in the closed grids, and allow a virtual sex industry to develop on the hypergrid.
