Press release: VR Sociable Network vTime is Now Available for Google Cardboard in Early Access

Liverpool, UK – vTime, the first virtual reality sociable network on mobile, today opens its network to millions more users as it launches for Google Cardboard. The app launches in early access for a limited number of handsets. The cross-platform network, which allows friends to meet and socialise in immersive virtual environments, is now available as a free download to users with a compatible Android device via the Google Play Store.

vTime is the only virtual reality social network that allows interaction between a Samsung Gear VR and Google Cardboard. Until now, social VR has been limited to those with high-end headsets or a Gear VR. The launch of vTime Cardboard unlocks the social metaverse for millions more potential users, requiring just a $15 cardboard HMD, a compatible mobile handset, and a headset with built in microphone.

vTime Cardboard launches with the full vTime functionality. Upon entering vTime, users create a bespoke and lifelike avatar, then enter into one of 12 detailed virtual destinations with up to three companions. There, users are able to chat with each other in real-time, with head-tracking, and spatial audio to create the illusion of social presence. Users are also able to create friends lists and take selfies within the vTime environments.

“Launching on Cardboard allows us to introduce millions more people to possibilities that social VR presents. vTime proves that virtual reality doesn’t have to be isolating,” said Starship CEO Martin Kenwright. “We’re intent on creating a network in which conversation and communication is both natural and engaging, allowing our users to create a real human connection with vTime users across the world.”

The Cardboard launch also introduces the option for users without a virtual reality headset to join the fun. vTime Magic Window makes it possible to join vTime and interact with fellow users of the network using just a mobile phone and headset with built in microphone.

vTime launches on Cardboard with an existing community of tens of thousands of Gear VR users, hailing from over 150 countries. The network will be available for all virtual reality HMDs, from Google Cardboard through to PlayStationVR, Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, by the end of 2016.

Full compatibility list for early access includes: Nexus 5, Nexus 5X, Nexus 4, Nexus 6P, Nexus 6, Samsung Note 4, Samsung Note 5, Samsung Galaxy S6, Samsung Galaxy S7, Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+, Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, LG G3, Samsung S3, HTC One M9.
