Thanks for the review. It seems to have the same plastic “nose” as the Leji? Might be my nose but I find it very uncomfortable!

I haven’t found a way to use the mini BT remote with my Android phone, which button emulates the Google button?

    1. maria@tromblyinternational.com'

There’s no button on either the Leji or the FiiT VR S2. You’ll either need to stick with look-to-activate apps (which is most of them, and all the videos) or get an external controller like the one my headset came with.

You have to pair the remote with your phone, the way you would any Bluetooth device, then experiment to see which buttons do what. Each remote is different. (And one of the remotes I got with another headset didn’t seem to work at all.)

For the nose, I don’t know what to tell you. There’s definitely more padding around the nose area on the FiiT VR 2S than on the Leji, so that might help, but it really comes to personal preference and nose shape.

For folks that have specific requirements for their VR headsets, I recommend buying from a site with a good return policy. Or buy ones that cost little enough that you don’t care if you’re out the money, and can just give the viewer away to a friend or relative.

      1. beth_trego@yahoo.com'

Any recommendations for remotes? More specifically for use with an iPhone. Thanks!

        1. maria@tromblyinternational.com'

Sorry, but I haven’t been able to find any remotes that work with iPhones. Apparently, Apple changed something a couple of years ago. There’s iCade and MFI which are alternate standards for controllers for iPhones, but there are very few VR games that support them.

The following MIGHT (I haven’t been able to get it to work, but some folks said they have): Occupation VR, Beenoculus Flight, Fibrum’s Zombie Warfare, Running Alice VR, House of Terror, VR Space: The Last Mission, Fractal Combat X, End Space VR, Shark VR, Hometown zombie VR, Sniper VR.

There’s also the Realiteer, which is a kind thing you assemble yourself out of paper and cardboard, which you can use as a DIY motion controller. Games that work with it are Battle Z VR and Germbuster VR.

Hi Maria, my headset is one of those with a narrow view of around 50-60 and I’ve read that’s ideal for viewing movies. So if I get the Fiit VR S2 with 102 FOV, I won’t get a better experience when watching movies right? Thanks.

  3. hara75gr@gmail.com'

Hello Maria, is the fiit suitable for my 6″ nexus 6 or do you have something else to propose?

    1. maria@tromblyinternational.com'

It’s supposed to fit. My Samsung S6 has a 5.1 inch screen, and the viewable area of the headset extends a bit beyond the edges of the screen. With a larger screen, you’ll get a better field of view — but the far edges of the screen might get cut off.

So it will work, but it won’t be an optimum.

The reason is that because if the opening is big enough for the largest phone screen, it won’t work as well for small phones and will also let light in. So they compromise somewhere in the middle.

As far as I know, there are no headsets with adjustable opening sizes out there yet. Plus, you’d also need more adjustments on the lenses to accommodate… however, I doubt anyone is working on that right now since the new Daydream standard is out, and if I was a manufacturer, I’d be retooling for that, instead of working on improving my Cardboard sets.

      1. hara75gr@gmail.com'

Thanks a lot for your answer Maria. So, as I understand, I’ll better wait for the new daydream headsets, but is my device compatible with daydream? I think only the new pixels are compatible with daydream platform…What do you think?

        1. maria@tromblyinternational.com'

Right now, it’s just the Pixel. I’ve already bought mine, and its supposed to be delivered around Oct. 20. I also got a promo code for the a Daydream View headset, and expect that to arrive next month.

HOWEVER — both are open standards. Any phone manufacturer can make an Android Nougat phone that’s Daydream ready and several have already said that they will be releasing phones this fall. In addition, there are more than 100 manufacturers making Cardboard headsets, and I’m sure they’ve spent the summer retooling for Daydream, and those headsets will be hitting the market soon after the phones do.

          1. hara75gr@gmail.com'

I guess I can’t wait to get a daydream compatible phone in a reasonable price, so I ordered the fiit for my present phone. Thanks a lot for your help!

I’ve got a challenge for Maria:
I use a Nexus 6p with a Supcase Unicorn Beetle Pro case. I don’t want to go through the inconvenience of removing this every time I want to use VR.
Is there a headset that can accommodate this bulky case on an already large 6p?
I’ve seen the I AM CARDBOARD DSCVR, but this doesn’t have a strap! who wants to hold their headset during a VR experience?
So big phone, bullky case, want a strap – oh and obviously it would need to be compatible with all the cardboard apps on android. Am I asking too much here?

  5. inge.johnsen@gmail.com'

Do you have any tips on getting the controller to work with Cardboard? The only thing I can get it to do is exit the app. I am not able to do the one button press that is required by Cardboard… 🙁

  6. anubisdragoon@gmail.com'

    Hey Maria!

Can you tell me is immersion better on this device or on bobo vr z4 mini? I read your reviews, a I am not sure which one to buy. I have 5,5″ phone, and I saw on your review that you can not see black edges with bobo vr Z4, Can you tell about black edges with fiit vr 2s? Thanks!

  7. orxan.huseynov69@mail.ru'

    Hi Maria!
Can you tell me is immersion better on this device or on Boafeng 5? I read your reviews, a I am not sure which one to buy. I have 5,2″ phone, and I saw on your review that you can not see black edges with Boafeng 5, Can you tell about black edges with fiit vr 2s? Thanks!

    1. maria@tromblyinternational.com'

Right now, you can see black edges with every headset, including the Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive. Right now, all the headsets — with the exception of StarVR, which I don’t think you can buy anywhere yet — top out at about 110 or 120 degrees. The Gear VR is 96 degrees. the new Daydream View is 90, and a couple of headsets — like the BoboVR Z4 — claim a 120 degree field of view.

The FiiT VR 2S is just around average.

If you have an engrossing VR experience, you quickly stop noticing the edges. It’s like wearing a scuba diving mask or ski goggles — when you first put it on, you get annoyed that your peripheral vision is blocked, but after a couple of minutes you stop noticing it and just turn your head a little more when you want to look to the side.

I’m guessing that the next generation of headsets will fix the problem. Right now, there’s only so much they can do — you need enough space between your eyes and your phone so that you can put lenses in there, and that pretty much guarantees that there’s going to be something on the sides. There are manufacturers playing with all sorts of other alternatives, though, including headsets that look and feel like wrap-around sunglasses.

Bottom line is that your headset is going to be obsolete in a year or so anyway, so don’t spend too much money, don’t expect too much, and just have fun with it. My personal preference for headsets is something that is super easy to take on and off. The less hassle it is, the more likely you are to reach for it when you watch a 360-degree video or want to play a casual VR game.

      1. orxan.huseynov69@mail.ru'

Hi Maria! please tell me, BoboVr Z4 mini or Fiit VR 2S? I have 5,2 phone.

          1. orxan.huseynov69@mail.ru'

with headphones they will think harder, so if we take better without them, no?)

but the truth is that they will fog up the lens? and I also read somewhere that the recommended eye – no more than 110 degrees ??

          2. maria@tromblyinternational.com'

I don’t know if you think harder with headphones or without them. I personally don’t like them, because they’re bulky and annoying. But some people like them very much, and I’ve seen good reviews about their audio quality. Or you could use any headphones or earbuds that you already have — many places are selling a version of the Bobo VR Z4 without the headphones.

For the field of view, for gaming, if you have a phone with a good-resolution screen and a large screen size, the larger the better.

It’s arguable whether the Bobo VR actually delivers all the 120 degrees that it promises — between 90 and 120 degrees it’s kind of hard to tell the difference, with all the different headset shapes and phone sizes and so on. But in general, the higher the number, the better.

Of course, I don’t know what kind of phone you have. If your phone has a low-resolution screen than a wide field of view will make the individual pixels more visible — the “screen door” effect. On my Samsung Galaxy S6 and my Pixel XL, the images are fine.

            Good luck!

          3. orxan.huseynov69@mail.ru'

I have 5,2 phone (FullHD). Google Nexus 5X.

if you give preference BoboVR Z4 mini, then why is your favorite Fiit VR 2? if it is easy to write to me briefly about the disadvantages of the two models I will be very grateful!
            Good luck!

          4. maria@tromblyinternational.com'

My BoboVR has the headphones, and the FiiT is smaller and takes up less space on my shelf, and it’s easier to grab. I don’t really play games — I use the headsets to try out apps and watch quick videos. So I need something that I can use quickly, and then put back again.

However, I just got my Daydream View headset, and I’m retiring all the other ones. The Daydream is just so much better and cooler.

          5. orxan.huseynov69@mail.ru'

momo I’m talking to you – it is without headphones (bobovr z4 mini), and that’s given it all no matter what advise? that is to say in which the lens better, in some eyes less tired? for me it is important to comfort and less trouble with configuration and that was a lot of applications of games.

I would take Daydream, Daydream but it seems not supported by my device – they work with Android N.

I have a choice between Fiit VR 2S and Bobovr Z4 mini (without headphones)

          6. maria@tromblyinternational.com'

The BoboVR Mini is roughly comparable to the FiiT VR 2S in features, except that the BoboVR Mini has a wider field of view and has a button, so overall I’d vote for the Bobo.

Your phone has 423 pixels per inch, so a bit less than my Samsung Galaxy S6’s 571 PPI, so you might see more of a screen door effect with the BoboVR Z4 Mini than with the Fiit VR 2S, but you also might not notice the difference.

Depending on where you order them, you might also get a Bluetooth controller included with the headset.

Then, beyond that, it’s a question of personal fit and comfort, and while I like the FiiT’s fit better, you might prefer the Bobo.

If you decide to order both, then return (or regift, hah) the one you don’t like, please let me know how you compare the two!

I decided to take Bobovr z4 mini, but there is one problem. in eBay I can not find the original brand bobovr z4 mini. their name is Xiaoxhai.

          8. maria@tromblyinternational.com'

            Xiaoxhai is the distributor.

For example, here’s the same one for sale at GearBest:

            http://www.gearbest.com/virtual-reality/pp_397969.html?wid=21

Here’s one on AliExpress, bundled with a controller:

            https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Head-Mounted-Google-Cardborad-BOBOVR-Z4-Mini-3D-Video-Helmet-Virtual-Reality-Glasses-VR-Headset-for/32695519346.html

You can see the “Bobo VR” stamp right on the front cover — but some distributors do put their own brand names on them, too, like Virtoba.

Here is the Virtoba version on Amazon:

            https://www.amazon.com/Virtoba-X5-Elite-Headset-Virtual-Reality/dp/B01H35AU3G

As far as I’ve been able to tell, they’re all the same except for the branding. And, also, some of the older ones might have an inferior, crumbling-type of foam, and problems with the functionality of the button, but those issues seem to have been fixed in later batches. I don’t know of any way to figure out which you get from where. Best I can suggest is to check the return policy before you buy. Good luck!

          9. orxan.huseynov69@mail.ru'

that is better not to risk not to take virtobu considering that there may be a problem with the buttons?

And the last question, and problems with the QR-code or cardboard can not be if I take Xiaozhai?

          10. maria@tromblyinternational.com'

As far as I know, the button issue is not related to the distributor. And the QR Code works the same across all versions of the headset.

Please could you stop looking at VR headsets the same way a woman looks at handbags? 😉 Otherwise you gonna like a new one everyday 🙂 Jokes apart, could you tell us which one has offered the best immersive experience so far? That is what I think matters the most to most users!

          13. maria@korolov.com'

I have actually only really liked a small percentage of the VR headsets I’ve tried, and there are a bunch of negative reviews here as well.

And my favorite headsets change all the time because new ones keep coming out that are better.

That said, my favorite mobile-based headset right now is the Daydream VR. It’s got a slightly smaller field of view than the FiiT VR or the BoboVR or even the Gear VR, but the virtual reality operating system they’ve got now, and the motion controller, makes it really fun to use. It’s also super light, which makes it comfortable to use for a longer time.

However, it only works with a couple of phones right now, since it requires the latest version of the Android operating system and the latest hardware specs.

          14. c1371985@trbvm.com'

Thanks, since I don’t have that kind of newest phones (with Daydream), I ended up buying a Bobo Vr, also with the help of your articles and comments.

The funny thing is that my phone doesn’t have a gyroscope (and I knew that before buying the headset), but that is not a problem because there’s this Virtual Sensor software which can emulate a native gyroscope mixing up data from the compass and accelerator sensors.
I am not sure yet how reliable it will be, but people say it works nicely!

If anyone is interested, these are the requirements to use Virtual Sensor:
            – you have to have a rooted phone [read below *]
            – you have to install the Xposed Framework
            – you need to install the Virtual Sensor module for Xposed

I’ll see how it goes and possibly report here. For now, thanks for your help!

            [*]
If you know what you’re doing, this is not really so complicated, but for people who never done this kind of things, it might require a bit more guidance because rooting a phone can be a delicate operation… although these days has become much easier (in some cases you just need to look up how to root your phone on google, download a specific application for that, and just press a button). Sometimes in this process you are proposed to install other useless software full of ads so you might have to pay attention to that, only installing what’s really necessary (the rooting application) in the cleanest possible way.
Also some other times there is more than one way to root the same phone, so rather than just choosing one way randomly, try to see which one represents the accepted consensus for your phone in forums and dedicated websites.

please tell me, BoboVr z4 mini it differs from BoboVr z4? As far as I know there is an option with the Mini is preferable phones with a size of 5.5 – 6. And given the size of my phone which would be better for me Fiit Vr or BoboVr z4 (without headphones), or BoboVr z4 mini?

  9. tixierpierre@hotmail.com'

headset design is ok but lens manufacturing is really poor: a slight change in position of the headset on your face makes the image go from crisp to blurry – it does not do that in any of my 3 other vr headset – i also have light leaking at ear level (clearly designed for a flatter head profile) at a similar price point i prefer bobovr z4
