    Yay! good stuff Maria

  2. Korguth@gmail.com'

Another great article Maria, thank you for the coverage! It is interesting to see the continuing drastic shift toward opensim as it becomes more and more viable to SL users. DreamNation is almost there, so close to that top ten list! *jumps gleefully*

  3. I’d like to take all the credit for the jump in DreamNation numbers. However, Linden Labs and SL must be awarded points for their continued short sightedness. We are also keeping new members because of OS 0.9. It has some failings still, but if you see what our members are doing with Mesh and Bump Maps and vehicles, you’d understand why.

AviWorlds is not down. Cant even do a server upgrade that you will count that as a down time? Geeee my GOSH…. Let me see I turned the server down 5 times yesterday so that counts as 14 times down now? Unbelievable really is… I sent you the amount of land and I dont see aviworlds on the list. AviWorlds has over 200 regions.

I was thinking Maria that, under the Transitions header, you list suspended grids and new grids added this month but you don’t mention any grids that are active again after being suspended. I think it would be fair to list them as active after being listed as suspended so people know they are back.

    1. maria@tromblyinternational.com'

Talla — You’re right. There were a handful of grids that were previously suspended — or even closed! — that were back up this month. I don’t currently track this, though I see it happening. I’ll try to remember to keep an eye out for it next month.

      Fudging numbers maybe LOL, kidding

      1. chrisx84@live.ca'

i’m not taking that as a joke since it has happened before and most likely happening again. I’ll be very surprised if all these numbers ARE legit.

BTW if anyone is using my old stats script you may want a math expert to go over the code, i believe i got the math wrong sorry.

        1. 1derful61@gmail.com'

I added the “kidding” part to be a little sarcastic on the matter. And your 100% correct.

  6. netinterprizes@yahoo.com'

I have to say that Avination’s owner Melanie is correct. Opensimulator is something everyone and anyone can get and place a grid online. It is opensource and because of that it is not a good business module for money making. I have had my share of experiences and I have tried many business modules.
Here is a good example. All the brasilian grids owners were at one point AviWorlds residents. Now there is a new brasilian grid popping every 4 weeks.
Maria mentions here that the reason AviWorlds traffic is not so huge anymore is because it has shut down 9 times ..bla bla bla.. It is not. The truth is that the word got around and people found out that they can also open their own grid.
AviBrasil not long ago was kicking butt in traffic until it was taken down. Hacked to the ground. I really think that people interested in investing alot of money into a grid of their own should really think twice maybe 4 times before they spend too much in a project that is the same as anyone else and has nothing new to offer.

    1. maria@tromblyinternational.com'

Alex — I think people have long known that they could open their own grids, but didn’t want to go through all the hassle of doing it. But each time Aviworldz went down, and everyone lost their content, I think more people became motivated to try. Sure, not all of those new grids will make it, but some probably will

      1. netinterprizes@yahoo.com'

No that is not the real reason.
That is a human behavior and characteristic. Everyone wants one …or everyone wants to do the same. Otherwise there would only be one airline one restaurant one jeans manufacture or even Opensimulator would not exist because people would be content with SL only.
At the end no matter what the reason is; more and more grids are opening up and it does make the whole thing more difficult to survive. Do not get me wrong. Everyone is entitle to try.

      2. netinterprizes@yahoo.com'

Anyway AviWorlds is online. I have been updating the server but it is online now.

        1. chrisx84@live.ca'

for how long? you open and close that grid more times then i open and close my bedroom door. its a good thing maria is keeping count because i lost count at 5.

          1. skylifegrid@gmail.com'

He should install a switch for his grid would make things much easier

          2. netinterprizes@yahoo.com'

No Josh I should get helpers that I can trust and will never betray me no matter what. That is what I should do.

          3. skylifegrid@gmail.com'

Funny coming from you the guy that just pulled TOS and screwed everyone out of their money and goods… Funny how you say that .

  7. trrlynn73@gmail.com'

Ok, let me see if I got this right. This month is not a lull month because the graph shows upward trends and because last month was a lull but not really because although it was less that the previous month it was still more than the previous month to that which itself was a lull because everyone know summers are lulls because people go outside and do stuff, so it is said, but overall it is a continuation of upward trending although this month could be considered a lull because people are back in school so it is either the summer lull or the fall lull, for one thing or another which likely means this all is in a lull because it should all be much higher numbers and we are being neglected by “the powers that be” and we should just accept things as they are…..(try saying that 10 times while rubbing your belly and patting your head)

Thanks again Maria for all you do!-))

I just got a note from Alex Pomposelli from AviWorlds saying that he’s officially closed down the grid:

    Full text of the email:

“I need to inform the brasilian community and also the metaverse community that I will be taking a break from opensimulator worlds and I am ready to retire after a long battle. A battle I am not ashamed of and yes very proud of. A battle I did not give up and kept going forward looking for success.
AviWorlds was the pioneer grid within the brasilian community and many others. Many of the new grids online now are owned by AviWorlds ex residents.
Anyway I am going to retire now and I wish all of you GOD SPEED.
    Alex Ferraris

The facebook page along with all the other media platforms will be deleted in 14 days.”

I am not — yet — counting this as the tenth closing of the grid, because it was barely up long enough for anyone to notice, and because he might change his mind again tomorrow.

I’ve gotten many emails from him before saying that he’s shutting it down for good and never coming back, and that the grid is up and will never again be shutting down.

    1. services@farworldz.com'

      It beggars belief quite honestly.

      1. maria@tromblyinternational.com'

And it’s also unique in OpenSim, as far as I can tell. There are plenty of grids that have outages, both planned and unplanned, with varying degrees of communication with their residents. There are grids that announce that they are closing, and then close. There are grids that slink away quietly, without any formal announcement. Grids get sold. Occasionally, grids shut down for a long time, then get opened again.

But I’m still keeping an eye on it. Who knows, it may come back, and by some miracle turn out to be something that makes the transition into the VR metaverse, and hundreds of years from now my VR avatar will be telling my virtual grand-grandchildren that I knew it when.

        1. services@farworldz.com'

I like miracles! I used to think it was all about cheap publicity, all that opening and closing of Aviworlds and Hypergrid on/off, Freebies are good, Free is bad and don’t pay the rent. So many changes but Alex kept in the news and entertained us I guess. It is hard to dislike him but then I never trusted him with my business. I’m sorry for those who did.

    2. skylifegrid@gmail.com'

Some people cant handle the heat.. Good Luck Alex with what ever you decide to do.. You should auction off The AviWorlds Domains

      1. da.tonyhayward@gmail.com'

“Some people cant handle the heat.. ” Hey come on Alex gave it a go there is no need to stir the pot.

      2. dragon@stargazer-genesis.com'

Really think they are worth that much to even bother auctioning off? lol … the Aviworlds name is kinda dead tbh

      3. 1derful61@gmail.com'

Heat and theft i agree. Many get tired of being the back end of the donkey.

      4. netinterprizes@yahoo.com'

No but I really would love to have all aviworlds and avibrasil data back . Send it in a link please to my email.

      5. 1derful61@gmail.com'

Heat and theft 🙂 If you know what i mean

    3. dragon@stargazer-genesis.com'

Prolly not growing as fast as he wanted, with all the outages, Genesis left, Skylife left, Baller Left, Virtual Loff Left, Kea nation left, and the brasilians that were in the grid prolly arnt flocking back as fast as he wanted, cant say i really blame them, all the times shut down and then to claim that TOS and he owes nothing, bit of a desperate attempt, luckily most got thier money back with paypal and a case dispute.

      1. netinterprizes@yahoo.com'

Just look in the mirror I am sure you will get a good laugh CHRIS

          1. netinterprizes@yahoo.com'

Problem is Chris you start it and now you dont like my answer to what you started. I dont think your statement saying that everyone hates is accurate at all.

          2. da.tonyhayward@gmail.com'

I don’t hate you Alex & I do sincerely wish you the best for future endeavors.
There is no need for personal attacks on anyone here.

          8. netinterprizes@yahoo.com'

Chris..please. I dont know what your beef is really with me. I am not disrespecting you man…just stop pulling my leg and things will be great …Want to know the truth man? My opinion of you is that you are a very intelligent person and more! Your knowledge is tremendous and I envy you man! I wish I had someone like you on my team. With my investment power and your genius mind GOD knows what we could have done with AviWorlds. And I do think that the reason AviWorlds has been up and down so much was really a lack of a person with your brain! So there Chris I hope you enjoy your evening

          9. chris@virtlife.net'

wow now i feel like an a(bleep), im sorry alex for always losing it on you but you do tend to put blame onto others instead of just admitting the truth.
            I appreciate the kind words.
Good luck with the next time you open aviworldz.
