Avination only had about 600 regions. I dont get it why it is making such a big difference on opensim’s amount of regions. AviWorlds had over 1400 regions.
It’s not making a big difference in terms of regions, but in terms of registered users. That grid had been around for a while — one of the oldest in OpenSim and, at one point, the most popular grid in OpenSim, and it had a lot of registered users. Last month I have numbers for it, back in June, it had more than 80,000 registered users — and about 500 regions and 500 actives.
At its peak, back in 2011, the grid had more than 1,100 regions (and this was before varregions), and nearly 9,000 active monthly users.
The problem, of course, was the winner-take-all aspect of closed social grids. People want to go where all the other people are, and where all the content is. And merchants want to go where all the customers are. Unless there’s something dramatically different to bring people in, over time, folks are going to cluster around one large grid, with just small, niche communities elsewhere. That’s happened with the closed OpenSim grids — over time, everyone just naturally drifted over to InWorldz.
Meanwhile, InWorldz is facing the same problem now, with the hypergrid acting as a kind of single giant grid. On the hypergrid, there’s more content (from the Kitely Market), more stuff to do, more people, and cheaper land. It’s a slow migration, because it can be hard to FIND the stuff to do, and the people, but the Google Plus communities like OpenSim Virtual are starting to make it easier for people to find each other, and for event organizers and content creators to promote their stuff.
I just updated the numbers in this article, and on the full stats page (https://www.hypergridbusiness.com/statistics/december-2016-opensim-grid-statistics/). The home page of the Genesis MetaVerse grid wasn’t updating, and showed different numbers from their official stats page, and trying to figure out what the problem is. Meanwhile, I’ve corrected my numbers — their region counts went up, but their active user numbers were actually lower by a couple of hundred. Meanwhile, ZetaWorldz has been going through a lot of testing and development this month, with number fluctuating rapidly because of that testing. they’re currently in beta, but are getting close to official launch.
that’s probably because genesis is run by a moron maria
