yo virtouse lilenthal, if you ever decide to go full web based hit me up! ill give ya my php and lsl.
Hey Chris, thanks for the offer and it’s very kind of you. However currently there are just too many issues with OpenSim communications to guarantee a reliable and mainly secure solution.
There are limitations from a maximum of just 100 URLs per region, to not being able to reliably use HTTPS everywhere not to talk about that you cannot use llRequestSecureURL to receive a HTTPS url for HTTP-in, and that not even in InWorldz last time I checked. However the last point wouldn’t really prevent me from getting it done, but still HTTPs would help to reliably ensure who you are talking to if you have a specific CA certificate you can verify against.
So without me creating an OpenSim module that needs to be installed by grid owners there’s probably right now a small chance of me going that route, also with the recent leakage it just shows me how important a proper secure system will be that cannot be intruded.
i use $_SERVER[“REMOTE_ADDR”] and then do a compare with a grids login uri in my database, of course the grid info has to be stored on my end first.
This could bring me back to OpenSim as a merchant if a unified currency like Gloebits was widespread, I have no time to set up in dozens of grids, due to myself having irreconcilable differences with Kitely’s management, the option is no longer viable for me to use their marketplace.
People love my creations in Secondlife, often people ask me to bring stuff over, Wish I could create here again, but I need a Kitely Alternative that can reach just as many places as they, do while empowering me the creator in full control.
i cant say much but a alternative is being looked into.
Thank you David for this article and VirTec for sharing data. It is helpful to see the progress when deciding if, or what, currency service to have on my grid. It’s great to have Kitely direct delivery but obviously, a universal currency like Globit could help stimulate in-world shopping much more, which will make Hypergrid a much bigger market. I’m not sure where this leaves other currency exchanges like Podex but I guess there is still a lot to work out yet and we may see more developments before long.
Any word on whats going on with VirTec can’t find his products anywhere any more in the metaverse. Did he pull out of opensim or something maybe someone will know?
David is working on the story now, but the bottom line is, yes, details to follow.
oh goodie, i likes details…..
Oh no! They had the best products! I wonder if it has something to do with all the theft. Look forward to hearing the details.
Excuse me but I just searched VirTec products in Kitely Market and there is a list of them for sale.
Is his Vendor system still there?
No, the vendor system has been withdrawn but all his other products are still available so he hasn’t left Opensim, as was suggested. Perhaps he might yet find a way to upgrade his vendor system in the future.
Not getting any support replies either. Do you know how to get a hold of him?
David is finishing up a story about this now. If you or anyone else would like to comment in the article (under your real name), please email him at david@hypergridbusiness.com. We’re looking for merchants who are affected by this, as well as for other vendors providing similar services that people can look at. Thanks!
