You’re right — we said “marketing” in the lead, but I didn’t update the headline … my bad.

For the recent past few months we have been Marketing regarding our FREE Land offer and even more recently Island Oasis has an advert running in the side bar here on Hypergrid Business. Thank you for running the advert!!! Marketing our FREE land offer is by far not our only Marketing campaign, but it has been a rather successful one.
Regarding quotes from me… This is in no way even remotely a quote from me “The grid first want to see how the currency is working out for the other grids that are deploying it…”
I would like to clarify that Island Oasis is NOT considering using Gloebits at this point. Here is a direct comment from me which I think was drastically misunderstood/misinterpreted.
    Below is my direct quote:
“What is interesting is witnessing Gloebits beginning to be used on other grids and our new residents commenting on “outsourced currency” and they prefer a grid which has their own established economy and currency. I am still trying to compile data to see how much of an impact this fact has on our increasing growth and the direct correlation if there is one. On the surface there seems to be a huge impact (due to so many new residents commenting on it, the dates of recent listings and adverts for HG locations using Gloebits and the dates of our increase in numbers), but again I am trying to compile data to verify this as fact and not phenomenal coincidence.”
The point I was trying to convey is that our newest residents have NOT liked outsourced currency… like Gloebits. and they prefer a grid (like ours) which has its own established currency instead (which has been in place since 2012.) So the correlation I am seeking to verify (if there is one ) is the dislike of Gloebits use and the increase in our numbers from residents liking the fact that we DO NOT use Gloebits.
We do have Merchants here in IO that allow hypergrid visitors to shop and take items with them for hypergrid travel. For those shoppers we have had a PODEX exchange so they can potentially trade their existing grid currency (if they have it) to our Island Oasis currency to use.
Even the Gloebits site itself has posted on their site that “We consider gloebits valueless tokens.” in response to the question
    Q. “Will you buy back my gloebits if I don’t use them?
    A. No. We consider gloebits valueless tokens.
Which can be viewed on their FAQ page https://www.gloebit.com/faq
Here in Island Oasis, our currency ALWAYS has a real life value. $300P =$1USD. Our residents appreciate that Island Oasis currency has a real value and they CAN authentically cash out.
Gloebits is a wonderful tool for those using it. I personally have no favoritism, nor dislike of Gloebits, but I am listening to our residents and what comments they have had to say.

It’s nice to see that some grids can still afford to give out free land but that only works if the owners have the money to keep the grid running smoothly without the revenue from its members. This article seemed to talk more about Gloebits that land, about 3/4ths of it actually, I’m happy to see IO has made the wise decision to decline on Gloebits.

Indeed REGIONS/ LAND in opensimulator is only best used to attract new users and not to create profits. Land is so devalued in opensimulator that my opinion is that a grid should try to create other ways of making money besides selling land.
If you have a grid and depend on selling land in order to pay for your servers; you need to re think fast because it will not bring you profit. Unless your grid has ALL SL CONTENTS and CREATORS offering your residents an UNIQUE experience in your grid then yeah…you can charge a lot of money for your regions and people will pay it.
