    Lost World Grid once considered Land rental or even free but there is just so many available out there
    I decided not to. I suppose if someone really wanted bad enough I would consider it.

      We do offer the occasional free parcel depending on the individual’s situation.Unfortunately servers do cost, even home based ones so we do need to have some revenue to defer the costs.
      Free parcels are great but are a burden on the grid/estate owner at the end of the day.

        $7 or even $10 a region is something but no way does it cover any cost unless there is 50 people or more are renting. Yes they do cost
        but there is sooo many people using there own configs on home PC’s why don’t more or all
        just do that. These days its so simple like Dreamworldz package, Less drama being your own boss.

          personally i think $7 or $10 dollar regions are cutting it very close to the bone & doesn’t really allow or project for any mishaps, maintenance or future growth…but I could be wrong. Cheap regions are great for the end user (the renter) but not so much for the person renting them at best I think the revenue is only “marking time”.

        I also calculated the median, which is the price point where half the grids have lower prices, and half the grids have higher prices. That helps offset the problem that one grid with a high price can dramatically affect the average.

        Last fall, the median price was $17.00 a month.
        Now, the median price is $15.00 a month.

        In addition, I wish to note that the My Virtual Community Grid offers and lower prices for the region than 5.60 USD (65536 sqm x 25,000 prims), if you booking more than one month, also offers free Parcels (2304 sqm x 19726 prims).

    I do want to add that people generally assume that everyone looks at prices the same way do. THIS IS NOT THE CASE.

    There are some people who will always go for the lowest price.
    There are some people who are wary of the lowest-priced services, and don’t want to pay too much for expensive ones, and always pick the one in the middle.
    And there are people who value quality above everything else and will always go for the highest-priced option.

    Since OpenSim prices are already ridiculously low, the number of folks who fall into the last category is actually higher than you might expect. When considering a move from a $300 region in SL to a region in OpenSim, the difference between $40 and $50 is really minor, and customers are likely to assume that the higher-priced service is better.

    I myself, tend to gravitate towards the middle-priced option. But if it’s something that I don’t care about at all (like, say, paper towels) I’ll grab the cheapest. For something that I care about very much (diet soda) I’ll always get the Diet Coke, no matter how much more it costs than Pepsi or the generic colas.

    When deciding on prices, decide on which of these customers groups you want to serve. Your marketing messages will be different in each case, and so will your operating budgets.

    For example, Diet Coke probably doesn’t cost more to produce than any other brand of soda, even possibly less because they make so much of it that they see efficiencies of scale. But they spend more money on marketing, which makes me feel better about Diet Coke and which makes it taste better to me. (In blind taste tests, I can’t tell it apart. But if I can see the label, then other sodas taste vile and undrinkable.)

    For a high-priced grid, that might translate into more personalized support, to make the customer feel valued. A more “exclusive” feel to the environment. “Classier” in-world content. And a consistent messaging that they’re getting a “premium” service. And all those words are in quotation marks because it’s all about making the customer feel that way. A gold virtual chair costs the same to make as a wooden virtual chair.

      Diet Coke still contains aspartame which more and more studies are finding to be an extremely harmful chemical in even small amounts. Pepsi recently removed it from all their diet products and are now using mainly surcalose which is still generally recognized as safe without so many negative studies. Pepsi is however still using acesulfame potassium as part of the sweetening blend and there recently have been a lot of questions raised about that one as well.

      Bottom line, diet Pepsi is probably better for you according to current evidence, but something like Zevia might be a better choice for not damaging your organs.

    When it comes to region rentals, service is also a very important consideration. Opensim tends to go south for one reason or another and if you are about to entrust your virtual stuff to somebody you need that person to keep an eye on region performance, or at least be available via email.

    AviWorlds will be giving out FREE 20000 prims regions Residents who want more than 1 will have to pay for that extra sim or sims
    But at the same time Avi-Labs will be focusing away from region sales as its sole means of getting profits
    Regions are easy to get and the market is overflowing .
    We will offset the costs via other ways I am not going to mention yet

    Here is the problem; Everyone is worried about giving regions cheap but are forgetting a very important FACTOR.
    What is a region good for without items to choose from to build it and I mean this for people who do not CREATE…They buy a 5 dollars region and then what? Sorry to say this but the lack of good quality items is so far the biggest downfall of opensimulator.
    But I will fix that soon!

      But Alex, Regions cost. The servers cost you, if you aren’t charging for regions how are you going to meet your cost?
      If you are thinking of upload fees or premium membership charges, most people will steer clear of it, creators will go to grids where they can build free or at very low cost. Opensim rent fees are minimal compared to the big grid. which is slowly but surely attracting more creators into open sim

        My focus is not to offset my server cost on region sales.
        No I am not going to charge an entrance fee. I will be offsetting the server cost on other ideas that will let me give 1 region per resident free.

    Just a correction our prices. On 3RD Rock Grid Foundation and community. We start at $8 for an Island region, after a month’s $1 trial for people new to the grid. That is a forever price. The $15 is for subsequent regions. But with a 2×2 var region at $20 we don’t tend to have many add on regions .Our full price list is available http://3rdrockgrid.com/new/private-region-order-form/ .
