    >> one user told Hypergrid Business. “But it has different physics so

I am not sure why the user thought that the latest Diva Distribution (D2) for version 0.9.0.0 has different physics. D2 still uses Physics = BulletSim which is the default physics engine for the OpenSim master code too. Using another physics engine would require a change from the default to one of the several option available including new ones that have been added in 0.9.0.0.

Actually OSL did not loose any users, you misread the stats last time, even after I put a notice on my page telling you to stop scraping them ..

    i.e. :

    All information on this page
is the property of Opensim Life
any external use/redistribution of this data without
    express permission is a violation

I mean go on, do it, you are not going to listen to anyone anyway, because “News” right, but if you are going to do it , and least get it right.

    1. Watcher, what are the true stats? If possible, can you please give me an email that I can follow up with the issue.

On DiscoveryGrid’s loss of land, the difference is an accounting issue in which last month and previous months the region count was measured in 256m region equivalents. Presently it is tallying the VAR region counts. That reset of measurement units, brought on by the move, is being fixed. It should be back to 256m region equivalents in the next week.

    1. Thank you Rene for the update.

Thank you for helping us to get the word out about Avatarfest, David! 🙂 We had a load test this morning and I’m pretty happy with the way that things have shook out. Our focus is on the ameteur side of the hypergrid; non-professional end users that come out to play and share their visions with folks.

I’m looking forward to seeing y’all there 🙂

    1. You are much welcome Han.

Well was not much mentioned about my home in Inworldz ..so let me fill the gap whats going on in my neck of the woods.

    A. Inworldz is no longer an American company but now based a company out of Panama, it maybe for tax reasons that’s my guess.
    B. After a few years the owner has decided new residents greeted by bots at the welcome area was not a good idea.
    C. After a few years of hard decline the owner is considering updating the welcome center but is firm in keeping the name desert island.
    D. Maybe the owner will upgrade the looks of the website after several years or possibly even give us a real forum back, like most other grids enjoy..hears looking to 2018 for hope and change we can believe in.

    1. moonriseazalee@gmail.com'

@Pocket Bear ~ You are misinformed.
A- One founder/owner moved to Panama. That has no bearing on whether IW is an American company. The servers are in the US, the contact phone # and address is still US and the other owners still live in the US.

B- ‘The Owner’ , there is more than one owner/founder of InWorldz. And it was not that owner who decided bots as greeters were not a good idea – and in fact new residents are NOT greeted by bots currently. There are mentors on the welcome island, and we need more. The talk about bots was conversation by RESIDENTS who said that the bots currently there who are faux band members etc in Jackson Square could be confusing to those new to virtual worlds because they may not realize that bots arent actual people and aren’t ‘ignoring’ them when not answering them etc. Also it has certainly not been a ‘hard decline’. Some days I have 20+ friends online, and there are multiple events each day even at the same hours and people are always in attendance. Ive been there 5 years and it is at least 3x as busy and populated as it was when I got there.

C – again not ‘The Owner’. The residents were talking about ways to improve and clean up the welcome island. The RESIDENTS of IW. Not the Owner/s .

D – The website was just updated recently, so again your information is incorrect. Forums can be volatile spaces and a way to troll and just cause trouble. The current ZenDesk support area is a great way for people to offer tips, suggestions and help. Interaction should be IN world. Not on forums.

I actually just moved back to IW after spending about 2 years in OpenSim and although I still enjoy visiting my HG friends and popping in to various grids, I have the social interaction I want with people ive formed deep friendships with. And as someone who has a mainland region across from the welcome island (IDI) I have new people coming over all the time looking for rentals, shopping etc. (‘all the time’=every day while i am logged in)

Please research your information about your home grid a bit more before spreading around incorrect statements.

      1. pocketbear201@live.com'

FYI, just because they never updated the website or told you directly
info means very little when Jim himself told me and my wife Mary that
Inworldz was now a Panamanian company operated from deep down in south
        america.

Well tranquility is gone and legion has been since 2014, so your misinformed to say the least https://inworldz.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/115000709414-How-are-u-doing-Inworldz-
no your again misinformed the website looks the same as it did in 2013, you can find pictures of it on SLU were someone pointed that out going on 5 years ago were most OS grids and SL has updated several times since then.
still no excuse for them leaving all that old russian spam bloating the old forums its a disgrace in my opinion.

“I actually just moved back to IW after spending about 2 years in OpenSim”

Well up until now, we never left and have helped pay to keep the servers on all these years, but here again time after time someone decides they have a new found devotion for the grid chimes in to quite anyone. well me and my wife should have left when our dear lost friend littleblackduck was forced out, but with so many options now like Osgrids or High Fidelity combined with what appears to be another year without a town hall meeting it might be time to move on.

Will send all my residents a notecard informing them we are closing, I will send in the support ticket now to close down our 23 region estate, the time has come to say goodbye.

        1. moonriseazalee@gmail.com'

I have paid for my region in IW for Five years, never stopped, and still pay for it. so thank you SO much for assuming that which you do not know. 🙂
Similar to you talking about the Owner and Jim as if they are the same person. Jim is not ‘the owner’ of IW.
I moved back to IW full time, closing down land in OpenSim and SL because I felt too scattered all over and wanted to focus on just one space.
And no, the website has not been the same since 2013. Some parts of it are still the same for logged in users, but no the main landing, information sections etc.
If you think you are better off elsewhere, good for you and good luck in your endeavours. (High Fidelity is great if you want to fork out 700 dollars for VR gear and have a top notch computer to run it. It is nothing like SL/IW/OpenSim. )
Sounds to me like you simply saw this post as a place to complain. But hey, freedom of speech 🙂 In the past two years Ive been in OpenSim, back in SL (as i mentioned). I have land in HighFidelity, and also some stuff I’ve worked on in Sansar. For me IW is the best fit but it’s great we all have options! *Cheers*

“FYI, just because they never updated the website or told you directly info means very little when Jim himself told me and my wife Mary that Inworldz was now a Panamanian company operated from deep down in south america.”

I certainly have never said anything like that. One of the founders (Beth) has moved her residence to Panama, but InWorldz is a US company registered in New York, with servers at Rackspace in Chicago. I’m not sure what you are trying to imply there but InWorldz has not changed status in any way. All DMCA laws (which are purely American) still apply and Beth remains the registered DMCA agent.

    2. hanheld@yahoo.com'

      >Well was not much mentioned about my home in Inworldz ..

That is because the owners complained about the unflattering light that their stats shone on them, and pressured HGB to stop mentioning them.

YES, Inworldz needs a forum for people to post their complaints at.

NO, HGB is not that forum.

Back on topic, I’m looking forward to Saturday, when Avatarfest opens for the opensim community; 11:45am SLT. Once again I want to thank David, Maria and the opensim community in general for the generous support that all of you have given us since 2015. 🙂

      1. maria@korolov.com'

Han — It’s not about the pressure. I regularly get emails — and law suit threats — from grid owners who want us to cover their happy news, but not their unhappy news.

There are two cases where we don’t cover stuff that might overwise be newsworthy. One is stats. If a grid doesn’t release its stats, we’re not going to publish those stats, because they don’t exist. I prefer that as many grids as possible release stats, so that the OpenSim community as a whole shows growth and helps bring in new users, creators, performers, and so on.

If a grid does release stats, we’ll run them. (You can’t copyright stats. You either release them to the public or you don’t.) If a grid doesn’t, we won’t. We also won’t run stats if there’s evidence that the stats are deliberately inaccurate.

When it comes to events, we will cover events that are of interest to the wider OpenSim community. So if a grid is holding a multi-grid event, opening a hypergrid-enabled mall or holiday-themed region, and so on, we’d love to cover it.

But if an event is targeting only existing grid residents, and is not super unusual, we probably won’t cover it. Most of our readers won’t care since they’re not the target audience, or because they’ll need to create a new account to visit.

Plus, the grids already have ways to communicate with their local users — they have instant messages, emails, welcome splash screens, their web sites, forums, social media channels to get the news out to their own residents. they don’t need us.

With InWorldz, they only release the number of registered users, not the region or active user numbers. They do have an events calendar on their website — https://inworldz.com/events/ — but you need an account with the grid in order to access the calendar.

So we only publish their registered user stats, and rarely, if ever, cover their events because it’s hard for most of our readers to access them, and we can’t even link to an event announcement.

There are a couple of other grids that have similarly private systems set up, with a core group of users, and their privacy the main concern. School grids, obviously, are one example. There are also grids for at-risk communities.

So our primary focus is on reporting on public grids, who want to do as much outreach as possible to the general OpenSim user base, as well as to people who might not yet be in OpenSim but who are interested in immersive environments (the readers who come here for the VR stuff).

We can’t have staff people on every grid looking for things to write about because we can’t afford it. (Our ads are free, and our monthly editorial budget is miniscule.) We do run contributed columns, however, and love getting press releases or event reviews, or articles about great places to visit.

If a grid publishes stats, they get fresh new in-bound links every month, which helps with search engines, and lets people know they’re out there — there are always folks looking for new grids to visit, and tell their friends about, and we try to provide lots of opportunities to discover these new worlds.

If a grid is holding events, or opening a hypergrid-enabled shopping mall, or offering other things that are of benefit to the public, we’ll be happy to run an announcement in our monthly stats report. This is one of our best-read articles every month, so it’s a good place to put small announcements. If it’s a major event — like the AvatarFest — we’ll also do stand-alone articles.

To get coverage for your event or destination, or to contribute articles about events and destinations, email me at maria@hypergridbusiness.com or David at david@hypergridbusiness.com.

        Thanks!

No. Simple answer. The company is NOT in Latin America, only I am. Our company is still registered in the US, it still has it’s servers in the US. And putting forth another partner would require consent of all the Founders. Which is a no. Flat out. No other Founders, no silent ones, no loud ones, nothing is changing on that end.

I’m not sure why rumors like this spread, but let me also kill the taxes idea: I left a city/state that had no personal income tax. I still pay federal taxes. Even in Panama. So I did not move to avoid taxes.

Tranq is still invested in InWorldz. However, he is forever moving up in his abilities and learning. After stabilizing the grid, he wanted to move forward with other plans of things he wanted to work on without having to try to divide his time between InWorldz, his family, and starting exciting things (such as his non-profit that he loves doing). And as a mother who raised 2 daughters for 8 years with InWorldz, I can completely understand that need for family being number 1.

So no, there is no grid merge discussion with any grid, in Latin America or otherwise. No other Founders being added.

  8. john.butler.nc@gmail.com'

@Pocket Bear… Panama is in Central America not “deep down in south america”. The founders haven’t left the company. The company is still a U.S. company. InWorldz was, as you put it, “not much mentioned” in the article above because InWorldz isn’t on the Hypergrid and this is the Hypergrid Business website. InWorldz has bots at the Welcome area (IDI) but as Moon said, they can be confusing to new folks. I for one would love to see them all gone from that area. IWz has a great crew of real live Mentors who do an amazing job greeting people and showing them “the ropes”. The website looks just fine to most people.

Let’s see, did I address all your complaints. Hmmmmm yep I think so.

    1. da.tonyhayward@gmail.com'

      where?

  10. jim@gridmail.org'

I don’t know why people feel the need to make up completely fake stories like this. Yes, InWorldz has more than one founder, there have been multiple founders since the day it was founded. But since you’ve “been told” and “hearing”, from who/where are you hearing this, or is it just complete BS that you made up? I’m genuinely curious about how these weird rumors are started.

    1. moonriseazalee@gmail.com'

Just people making things up to cause drama/distrust. It has to be, because anyone looking at the website can easily see who the owners are, where it is based out of etc. Likewise, the conversations on zendesk are easy to read and none of the things suggested above are written there NOR are they things that would be said by anyone who actually spends enough time in IW to know anything about it.

  11. moonriseazalee@gmail.com'

Okay, you are really trolling. No, there is no ‘silent partner’ in the form of a very popular Brazilan grid owner. That is absolutely false. 100%. IW is NOT out of Latin America simply because one owner moved to Panama. LMAO

  12. paelaargus@outlook.com'

Probably worth noting that YrGrid turned off hypergrid access over a year ago. Way to keep track.
