Beijing-based Noitom Ltd. has launched a Kickstarter for its Perception Neuron motion capture product which offers the promise of interacting with virtual environments at a lower cost than available with other platforms.
Perception Neuron costs $175 with delivery estimated in February of 2015.
The closest other system on the market today is Los Angeles-based ControlVR, which recently had its own successful Kickstarter. ControlVR costs $600 fro a two-glove system with delivery scheduled for the first quarter of 2015.
Perception Neuron can be used on its own, with just a regular computer and display, where it can become a motion capture device for animations. But it’s ideally paired with an Oculus Rift or similar 3D headset and an omnidirectional treadmill such as the Virtuix Omni or the Cyberith Virtualizer.
The Perception Neuron Kickstarter ends September 12, but the project is already halfway to its $250,000 goal.
