Google has released the Cardboard Camera app, free for Android smartphones. With Cardboard Camera, users are able to record 360-degree panoramas for viewing with Cardboard VR headsets.
The way it works is that it prompts the user to slowly turn around in a circle — I spun around in my office chair. The app also stores a small sound sample, for background ambient sound.
With some phones, the app can also record slow-motion video.
The photos can then be viewed in immersive virtual reality using Google Cardboard-compatible headsets.
