The New York Times Virtual Reality app won the Mobile Grand Prix at Cannes Wednesday night.
The newspaper has given away 1.3 million freeÂ Google VR headsets to subscribers to the Timesâ€™ Sunday edition since last November. AroundÂ 500,000Â thenÂ downloaded the NYT app for Android or iOS, which generated a total of 1.5 million content views, according to the newspaper.
Other films wereÂ sponsored by GE and MINI. GEâ€™s film, â€œNature is Inspiring our Industrial Future,â€ was shortlisted for Mobile Lions in the â€œvirtual reality experienceâ€ category.
