Press release: UtherConvention Trade Show Will Showcase Best of 3D Web and Demonstrate Breakthrough Convention Concept

Vancouver, BC – Utherverse Digital Inc., creator of the Virtual World Web (VWW), today announced it will host the world’s first completely virtual convention, UtherConvention 2011, this July 8th and 9th. This groundbreaking virtual trade show will showcase the best of virtual world technology, and will fittingly be held live on the 3D web.
UtherConvention will have all the features attendees would expect to find at a state-of-the art, real world convention held in a convention center, from the massive trade show floor filled with a variety of exhibitors, to the informative seminars, panel discussions, and networking events. Yet, the virtual convention also offers opportunities not possible in the real world, notably the ability to have an infinite number of global participants come together around a common interest, in real time, at an extraordinarily low cost.
“One of the most amazing things about this concept is the cost structure,” said Brian Shuster, Utherverse founder and CEO. “By creating a virtual convention, we have significantly reduced the cost of hosting a global event. We are able to charge people less than $1 to attend, and it’s under $50 to have a booth. So now people from all over the world can afford to come and explore the next generation of virtual worlds, and see how the 3D web will materialize over the next few years.”
The UtherConvention floor will feature between more than 100 exhibitors, including some of the largest players in the 3D internet. The two-day event will also include a range of informative seminars and panel discussions by noted speakers from the virtual world web, plus cocktail parties, meet and greets, and other social events at which business owners can network. There will even be live entertainment on the trade show floor, including a comedy show by popular Utherverse performer Patrick Maliha, which will close the first day. The event concludes with the Player’s Ball, a high-end, invite-only reception.
The VWW has registered more than 8 million members that use Utherverse’s PC & Mac compatible 3D Web browser to navigate a network of 60,000 virtual 3D communities – interacting, socializing and conducting business in sophisticated ways not possible on the “flat” Internet. In this virtual world, every person has a video game-like avatar they can use to perform at karaoke bars, try on clothes at actual virtual stores, and even teach or attend live online classes at UtherAcademy.
Throughout UtherConvention, all of Utherverse’s normal tools apply, including 3D voice and audio, which will allow participants to overhear and participate in conservations as they walk through the convention hall. Exhibitors and speakers can display products, set up screens to show slideshows or videos and use PowerPoint and props, just like they would in a real world convention.
UtherConvention is the first, and smallest, in a series of upcoming trade shows to be held on the Utherverse platform. Next, in early October, will be World of Warcraft FANCON, a virtual convention for players of the wildly popular online role-playing game, and for all the cottage industries that surround it.
Up to a half a million people globally are expected to attend this virtual event, which would be hard to pull off in the real world.
“These conventions showcase the power of the 3D Web. It enables you to do things that the flat web can’t, and that are impossible to do in the real world,” said Shuster “This technology opens up a whole arena of conferences that couldn’t happen before. Millions of World of Warcraft players aren’t going to spend thousands of dollars each and fly halfway around the world to see what’s new with the game and meet others in their guild. But for $2, they absolutely will.”
Utherverse is the leading developer of the 3D Web, the Virtual World Web (VWW), which currently consists of more than 60,000 independently operated virtual worlds. The company was formed in 2002 with the goal of supplementing the flat web with a 3D web that could bring a new kind of efficiency to businesses and users, in entertainment, education, commerce and charity.
Among Utherverse’s offerings are the Virtual World Web — TheVWW.com — which provides simple software that enables anyone to create their own Virtual World, and Virtual-Vancouver.com, a music-focused online community.
